Template:Documentation subpage

Purpose[edit]

This template can be used in talk pages to quickly ask an editor to back up their claims. It works basically the same way as Template:Template, but does not add the talk page to any categories.

The template has been designed to help focus long, complicated discussions in which people already reminded each other to follow WP:CITE but keep heaping up claims without citations. It serves as a brief reminder that does not add significantly to the length and complexity of the discussion. Addition of such a citation will encourage verification of the claim.

It produces the following appearance:

Elephants can fly with their big ears.[citation recommended]

Contraindications[edit]

This template should probably not be used in smaller discussions.

Technical details[edit]

This is an in-line template. Place the template immediately after the material in question, as one would do with a footnote. For example:

Elephants can fly with their big ears.{{fact_t}}

The name "fact" may make more sense if you visualize a question-mark after it: Fact?

The text will be linked to Wikipedia:Citation needed, which explains to readers what the tag means.

This template is a self-reference, and so is part of the Wikipedia project, rather than the encyclopedic content.

Categorization[edit]

In contrast to Template:Template, this template does not add any categories.
