I was trying to repair this mess, but must simply request its deletion. It is 100% wrong. Huw Powell 23:59, 16 February 2011 (EST)

How come?[edit]

Venturis are used by Eheim and other filter makers (including the Python device) to create a vacuum and therefore to inject air into a output pipe of the filter. Pretty common devices used in aquarium equipment Huw. :) --Quatermass 07:28, 17 February 2011 (EST)

I agree, the venturi effect takes advantage of the fact that faster moving liquid is at lower pressure then slower moving liquids. This has the effect is used by powerheads and protein skimmers to putt air into the water flow to make bubbles. --Brian 08:11, 17 February 2011 (EST)

You can just about see my venturi going here. It doesn't use a pipe but is connected on to the top of the Fluval U4's top outflow bit (yeah not great with technical terms) and creates the vacuum and pumps it straight into the outflow to create bubbles, which in turn cause even more surface agitation, thus more oxygen. --Cat 08:15, 17 February 2011 (EST)
I can't see a venturi in that photo, but never mind that. The article is illiterate at this point, at the very least, and doesn't describe or show a venturi. If they are in use in the trade/hobby, fine, but let's at least describe what they actually are - which this article does not do. I'm not even sure what this article does describe. I have seen "air injection" devices for the outlets of power filters (I think my Fluval has them), but they barely use the venturi principle. Also also, aeration is not accomplished by adding bubbles, it is done by exchanging the surface water rapidly. Huw Powell 22:26, 17 February 2011 (EST)
