What is a "kiver"? Shouldn't all organism pages be the scientific name, with as many redirects from common names to them as necessary? Huw Powell 20:53, 13 February 2011 (EST)

This isn't a scientific site, if everything was using just scientific names at the top newbies would be thoroughly bemused and use a different site instead. --Cat 08:01, 14 February 2011 (EST)
I think Cat misunderstood you, or I did. Yes all pages should be the animals most common scientific name (SN), and the common names (CN) should redirect here. If you look at the URL bar the page is the SN, but the {{fish data}} template rewrites the title to the common name used in the template and the scientific name. This is mostly to make reading easy and increase the SEO of the pages. Is that what your concern was? --Brian 09:01, 14 February 2011 (EST)
Thanks Brian, now that I'm a bit more familiar I see the cool trick here that makes the CN a wiki-synonym via the template. Very nice. Cat, the only useful name for critters is the one scientists use, since common names vary so much. But indeed, common names are what the lay public will come searching for. And often all the experienced aquarist can remember anyway. Huw Powell 21:32, 17 February 2011 (EST)
