Tank compatibility[edit]
Despite its reputation, it is very docile when placed with proper tanks mates. If you want to know which fish van go with the Florida gar, it has to be: 1) not small enough for it to eat. 2) it must not be too aggressive. 3) it must not be skittish. Good examples are Bichir, arrowanas and other Florida gars. Bad examples are peacock bass, guppies, oscars and pacus.
Diet[edit]
- This fish will primarily feed on live/frozen foods such as shrimp although it is not recommended to feed live food. It may take some time to wean on to dead foods but it is quite easy.
Feeding regime[edit]
When juveniles, feed it several times a day while when reached maturity, feed it once every day or every other day.
Environment specifics[edit]
- Requires a very large spacious tank with excellent filtration and water quality, appreciates some form of hiding spots.
Behaviour[edit]
- A natural hunter which will slowly stalk its prey before it attacks.
Identification[edit]
Irregular spots on it and is a Grey or olive brown color. It also has a short snout. Can be easily mistaken for spotted gar.
