Tank compatibility[edit]

This fish is best kept singly or in pairs, a pair bonds for life. Will not get on with invertebrates and will nip corals. Do not keep with other Butterflyfish.

Environment specifics[edit]

Requires a spacious mature tank with plenty of open swimming space as well as hiding places in live rock. It will nip at soft corals so is not generally reef safe.

Identification[edit]

A distinctive Butterflyfish. It's body is pale blue-grey in colour with slender dark diagonal lines done the body. There is yellow colouration around the mouth, pectoral and anal fins and on the belly. It has a large dark spot towards the rear of the fish near the rounded caudal fin, this spot is ringed in white and is designed to mimic it's eyes giving the fish its common name.
