Origin[edit]
- In shallow reefs in the South Pacific Ocean, mainly Hawaii, Marshall and Wake islands.
Sexing[edit]
- It is difficult to visually sex this fish.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- The Yellow Tang will be aggressive towards other Tangs, only one Yellow Tang should be kept to a tank. They will cohabit with other robust species.
Diet[edit]
- This Tang is an omnivore, preferring blanched vegetables to meat, and will accept dried seaweed, marine algae, mysid shrimp, spirulina, blanched vegetables and will graze on algae.
Feeding regime[edit]
- Feed once or twice a day.
Environment specifics[edit]
- This fish is suitable for both fish only and reef tanks. They are almost always on the move so a laterally spacious tank allowing for plenty of swimming room is essential.
Behaviour[edit]
- The Yellow Tang can be aggressive to fish of its own species and other Tangs.
Identification[edit]
- An attractive and popular saltwater fish. It is oval-shaped and laterally depressed in shape with a long pointed snout. It is vivid yellow in colour, giving it its common name.
