Origin[edit]
- Found in fast-flowing pebble-strewn hill streams throughout Asia, from Pakistan to Thailand.
Sexing[edit]
- Difficult to visually sex.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- Best in species tanks, but will not tolerate others of its own kind in close quarters. Due to it's preference to having a strong will only work with fish that tolerant similar conditions such as Danios.
Diet[edit]
- In the wild they eat aquatic insects. In the aquarium they like live or frozen worms.
Feeding regime[edit]
- Feed once or twice a day.
Environment specifics[edit]
- In the aquarium this fish should be provided with sand in which to burrow and plenty of other hiding places. It should also have highly oxygenated water and a good current.
Behaviour[edit]
- Territorial and aggressive towards others of its own kind and similar looking fish.
Identification[edit]
- This is an unusual and elongate fish which is olive brown in colour and lighter on the belly. It has a broad blunt head with several sets of long barbels and 34-36 vertebrae. The eyes are small and the fins are generally translucent, the caudal fin is forked.
