Origin[edit | edit source]

Oceania: known only from the lowlands of eastern Papua New Guinea between Dyke Ackland Bay and Collingwood Bay.

Sexing[edit | edit source]

The males of this species are brighter coloured than the females. They have vivid yellow fin tips.

Tank compatibility[edit | edit source]

They do well with other active peaceful species. Will attempt to school with similar sized fish such as Zebra Danios. Are very active fish which may bother slower moving fish such as Angelfish or Gouramis. Should be kept in a ratio similar to livebearers with more females than males.

Diet[edit | edit source]

Should accept most foods including small flake and granular foods as well as brine shrimp and daphnia and other small live/frozen foods.

Feeding regime[edit | edit source]

Up to three times daily. Generally a top to middle feeder, though they have been seen to take food from the bottom on occasion.

Environment specifics[edit | edit source]

Is fairly adaptable to most environments and do well in well oxygenated tanks with current. Prefers a well matured heavily planted tank which gets regular water changes.

Behaviour[edit | edit source]

A peaceful and sociable community fish.

Identification[edit | edit source]

A small silver fish with yellow trimmed fins. Their pectoral fins (yellow tipped in males; transparent in females) are placed high on the body, giving them a wing-like appearance. Colouration of tails gives them a forked appearance.
