- Found in Central America including Mexico.
Sexing[edit]
- Males are typically more colourful and slightly larger. note that it is no uncommon to get female Ellotis that are more colourful than males.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- Typically Peaceful. Although like most cichlids, they may be territorial, especially when breeding.

- Planted tank; the darker the gravel, the brighter the colours - this serves as way to camouflage in the wild. Caves are also recormended.
