Origin[edit]
- An Asian catfish found in large muddy rivers from Thailand to Indonesia.
Sexing[edit]
- Males have white genital papillae visible.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- A peaceful shy fish that does well with other peaceful tank mates and will generally not be a threat to smaller fish. Should only be kept with others of its own species if the tank is large and spacious to avoid any territorial behaviour.
Diet[edit]
- Will accept most foods, bloodworm, shrimp and brine shrimp are relished.
Feeding regime[edit]
- Feed once or twice a day, may only feed after lights out.
Environment specifics[edit]
- Requires a spacious tank with good filtration and hiding places for them to hide during the day.
Behaviour[edit]
- A nocturnal hunter, but will generally not hunt tank mates as long as it is kept well fed.
Identification[edit]
- This catfish is of typical Bagrid Catfish shape, and is very dark brown or black in colour, it's lateral line is marked with a white stripe, this may be solid or broken. It gets its common name from its dorsal fin, which is long enough to reach the base of the caudal fin and exhibits a flowing extension.
