Sexing[edit]

Heavy odontodal growth on cheeks, pectoral spines and body plates on mature males. Much less or non-existent on mature females.

Identification[edit]

Can be mistaken for Parancistrus aurantiacus, however, the P.nudiventris has subtle differences such as a lack of abdominal plates, buccal teeth more conspicuous, and shorter posterior dentary processes. This fish's colouration is attractive, it is a deep brown-black in base colour with many small white spots, which vary in size from fish to fish.
