- This is a highly territorial fish that under no circumstances should be kept with other Labeo or Epalzeorhynchos species, including it's own kind, nor with anything of similar shape. Other bottom dwellers may also be bullied including Corydoras and Bichirs. This fish is best kept in a tall tank with robust, fast swimming, similar-sized mid-top dwelling fish such as larger Danios, or in a species tank alone.
- Shaped much like other Labeo species such as the Black Shark, the Harlequin has an unusual mottled colouration with creamy-yellow base colour and grey-black speckled patterns covering the body. The fins are translucent but also have black mottling. It is generally found that this fish gets around 15.2cm (6") in captivity, but there have been reports of it getting substantially larger.
