Origin
- Native to the lower Niger and Ogun rivers in Nigeria.
Sexing
- Males have more vivid colouring than females.
Tank compatibility
- A peaceful shoaling fish that does best kept in groups of 6 or more. Keep with other peaceful community fish. Avoid larger predatory fish or fish with long fins.
Diet
- The Red-Eyed Tetra will accept most foods including pellet and flake as well as live/frozen food such as bloodworm and brine shrimp.

Identification
- An elongate Tetra with a bold iridescent lateral line that runs from the nose to the caudal peduncle. The top half of the eye is tinged with red, giving this fish its common name. The fins are mostly translucent, the dorsal having a black spot outlined in white.
