Sexing
- When mature, females are slightly larger, attaining 15cm (5.9"), males 11cm (4.3").
Tank compatibility
- A peaceful and shy fish that does in best in groups of its own kind with equally peaceful fish that require a similar tank set up.
Diet
- Small crustaceans, worms, mollusks. Not evident to eat plant matter. Most small, meaty foods accepted, as well as flake and pellet after being accustomed to them.
Feeding regime
- Feed two times daily, small bits. Frozen bloodworms, artemia, gammarus, ect taken with delight. Can be trained to flake and pellet, but likes the frozen. Not an aggressive feeder, indeed is very timid, so keep separate from centrarchids and other aggressive feeders.
Environment Specifics
- Dense planted tank, low pH, can tolerate very low pH, but adapts to a wide range. Soft water. Seems to move throughout water strata, is often observed resting on bottom or perched on vegetation.

- Passive, somewhat reclusive.
