- South America: Negro and upper Orinoco River basins.
Sexing[edit]
- Only identifiable during spawning when eggs can be seen in the females body. Very difficult to breed in captivity, most specimens found will be wild caught.
Tank compatibility[edit]
- Top dweller, a peaceful community fish to be kept with mid-bottom dwellers who keep out their way. Must be kept in groups of 6 or more.

- Feed once or twice a day. Will prefer floating foods.
