Talk:Gasteropelecus sternicla

Isn't the picture a Thoracocharax stellatus, the "spotfin hatchet"?

Wrong Photo?

Hmm after comparing the two species on Fishbase, it indeed looks more like Thoracocharax stellatus judging by the anal region.

Do you wish to change the photo Zeppelin? --Quatermass 16:45, 29 December 2011 (CST)

I agree, but it also looks just like every other Silver Hatchetfish I have seen in the store :). The caudal region looks longer on the Gasteropelecus sternicla, then on Thoracocharax stellatus. The Caudal fin is also sharper. I would say the picture more closely resembles Thoracocharax stellatus, but I also wouldn't be supervised if somebody more familiar with the fish told us we are wrong :) --Brian 06:51, 30 December 2011 (CST)
