[edit] Sexing

Males are significantly more vibrant in colour than the females. Females will look more washed out. These are mouthbrooding Bettas, the males will hold the eggs. A male who is holding is best kept alone in a breeding tank once the eggs have been transferred.

[edit] Tank compatibility

A generally peaceful Betta, males may be territorial towards one another. Can be kept in male/female pairs however, allowing at least 10 US Gallons (37.9L) for a pair. Best kept in species tanks if you intend to breed.

[edit] Diet

Should be fed a mixed diet of high quality pellets as well as meaty live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworm. They may not always wean on to dried foods.

[edit] Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.

[edit] Environment Specifics

These fish thrive in acidic conditions and will generally not tolerate significantly more alkaline water, although captive bred fish will be more hardy to a range of water chemistry. Keep in a densely planted tank with floating plants to avoid bright lighting as well as dark substrate.

[edit] Behaviour

A relatively peaceful Betta. In the wild they hide amongst leaf litter in streams with moderate current.

[edit] Identification

An elongate fish with large eyes and broad mouth. The body can vary in colour depending on origin, they are generally red to mottled brown in colour. The fins are edged in white with black.
