Minor Tetra

Origin

The Minor Tetra is native to the Essequibo River in Guyana South America, while the Serpae Tetra is native to the Rivers Amazon and Paraguay, so in the wild these two very similar species appear to be separate so they would not interbreed.

Sexing

The dorsal fin of the males is more pointed than that of the females. The female is also slightly more rounded than the males.

Tank compatibility

Should not be kept with larger predatory fish. Keep them in schools of 6 or more. Do not keep with slow moving long-finned fish as the Minor Tetra may fin nip.

Diet

Flake and granular foods along with micro pellet, supplemented with small live and frozen foods.

Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.

Environment Specifics

Keep in a mature and spacious tank with some dense planting and hiding places. Immaculate water quality is needed for these fish.

Behaviour

A generally peaceful Tetra, although can be boisterous to each other and may fin nip long-finned fish.

Identification

The Minor Tetra is a deep bodied fish closely resembling the Serpae Tetra.
