[edit] Alternative names
- Banded Gourami, Indian Giant Gourami, Rainbow Gourami, Striped Gourami
[edit] Sexing
- The male is more colourful, the female is pale grey like the Dwarf Gourami (Colisa lalia) however she has slight colouring. The male can also be recognised due to his nest building habit and constantly chasing females around the tank. The male has a pointed dorsal fin while the female's dorsal fin is rounded.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- This fish is generally peaceful, but two males will be territorial to one another. It does best with similar-sized robust but not aggressive or nippy tank mates.
[edit] Diet
- Omnivore therefore will indulge in everything from flakes to frozen foods and live foods. However they can live on flakes only, with an occasional bloodworm meal.
[edit] Feeding regime
- See also: General Feeding Regime
- Feed three times daily however one must make sure not to overfeed.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- They have a preference towards a well planted aquarium
[edit] Behaviour
- Peaceful, the male might be somewhat territorial but will not harm any other fish, except sometime harassing his females. Two females to one male are suggested as a ratio.
[edit] Identification
- A medium-sized Gourami that is often seen in several colour morphs. All have a long and high, almost rectangular, body. They all have several coloured vertical bands down the body.
