- Males are smaller and usually darker in colour then females.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- A predatory fish that should not be kept with smaller tank mates. Can be territorial towards their own kind. Keep with larger robust, yet peaceful, tank mates, top-dwelling fish will do better than bottom dwelling as this catfish may bully others in the same area.

- A voracious eater, will accept most foods including meaty foods such as bloodworm, earthworms, mussels, prawn and sinking catfish wafers.

- Feed once or twice a day.

- Should be provided a soft substrate such as sand in which to burrow as well as caves amongst bogwood and rocks in which to hide in during the day. The tank should be well filtered and without very bright lighting.

- Likes to burrow and may dig up plants. Predatory and can be territorial towards their own kind and other bottom dwellers.

- This fish has a broad compressed head with a short rounded snout. It's eyes are small and set towards the top of the head. The body colour is pale cream-yellow with irregular dark grey-brown blotches and bands. It has 4 sets of barbels around the mouth.
